Before comparing two blowers on noise, check that both figures state the measuring distance, the weighting (usually dB(A)) and the speed setting used. If any of those are missing, the numbers are not comparable — and a product described as “quiet” with no measurement at all is making a marketing claim.

How the decibel scale works

Why pitch changes who hears you

Two tools measured at the same decibel level can feel completely different. A high-pitched electric whine is directional and drops away quickly with distance, while the lower-frequency rumble of a combustion engine passes more readily through fences, walls and closed windows.
